Such A Good Night!

Well, I am home from my crêpe excursion and, let me tell you, it was AMAZING, TERRIFIC, SPECTACULAR, SUPERB.

To start: I took a nap at approximately 6:30pm and woke up at 7:20pm to take a quick shower. I was feeling refreshed and very hungry, so the visit to the crêperie was sounding better by the minute. We left around 7:45pm (our reservations were for 8pm) for St. Bertrand (pronounced San Bar-tran) which is about 15 minutes away. Little did I know, St. Bertrand is on the top of a small mountain, so it was just beautiful from the bottom - the town looks like houses surrounding a castle which is actually the Cathedral. (Basically every town, village, or city in Europe has its own Cathedral.) From the top, you can see for miles and it is really gorgeous, especially since today was hot and everything was hazy, the view was like a dream. We parked, walked into the little village (which is SO CUTE and so typically French), and found La Crêperie du Parvis - literally a little hole in the wall. We sat at a table outside on a terrace (this part was not so glamourous, the "terrace" was actually a patio with a piece of plastic over the top surrounded by old stone walls) and had a traditional meal of crêpes. I had a St. Bertrand galette (this is a crêpe, but it is made with buckwheat and is used for crêpes that are not sweet - these are typicaly eaten as a meal while the sweet crêpe is eaten as a dessert) with egg, ham, a type of Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and fresh cream for dinner. For dessert, I had a Nutella crêpe. SO GOOD. Mom, Dad (and quite frankly, anyone else who wants to come), I have to take you to this place, it is wonderful. You both would love it. We also had 2 bottles of cider (cidre in French) - one sweet and one dry - which were both very good as well. The 9 of us sat for a little while, digesting, enjoying the silence, and listening to the classical music in the background (no, I'm serious) before getting up to pay. My entire meal (which was really filling) came to only 9 euro. It was super duper cheap. (And their assortment of crêpes was unbelievable.) Afterward, we wandered around the village for a few minutes because the crêperie was directly across the street from the Cathedral of St. Mary which was huge and housed all these creepy statues of naked men dancing with poles. I took pictures, don't worry. By this time, the sun was setting and the view from the outlook near the Cathedral was breathtaking.

Finally, we all silently sauntered back to the cars in the dusk and drove back to Thèbe. The car ride back was quite possibly the best part of the trip - the air smelled so pure and sweet like summer. (Cliche, I know, but true.) Also, it's really humid out, so it is warm and feels as though a thunderstorm may hit tonight. The entire night was very peaceful and relaxing. Another one on the top 20 list - surely, it was not as wonderful as my night with the Bossy family. Hardly comparable, but still really great.

Bad news alert: I don't think I will get to see the Tour de France when it comes through the Pyrenees. I know, it sucks, but I can't really help it. Boo hiss boo.

One more thing: No, Jed, I did not make out with your cousin before leaving. I think he would have liked to make out with me, though. I mean, let's be honest...who wouldn't?

Ciao for now my dear friends and family...

(The "enter" button seriously does not work on this computer!)

Love,

Kelly
