And Recovered

Surprisingly enough, my wound is fine today. The burn cream must have worked a miracle because I don't even need to wear a bandage - it just looks like a scar on the palm of my hand. Plus, it doesn't even hurt. No worries Mom and Cindy.

So basically, I was in Green Bay last night since the fête reminded me of booyah parties in the middle of Wisconsin. Newly-discovered definition of a fête: 4 tents with peeling tables, one stage with a bad dj, and terrible European music that I cannot understand. BUT, many humorous events happened during the fête that I must tell you about. First of all, immediately upon our arrival, the dj started to play this ridiculous polka music. So, I asked Wheaty to dance with me and we stepped a mean polka along with other older couples who actually knew what they were doing. We laughed, they laughed, and we went to open up the bottle of Sangria I had hiding (and leaking) in my bag. A few minutes later, some techno came on and Niles jumped up excitedly to exclaim, "Let's dance!" So he and I made our way to the dance floor and pumped out some crazy moves, showing up everyone else in the (very small) crowd.

Suddenly, Flashdance music came on and the whole bunch of us were dancing our asses off in the middle of nowhere while the dj kept fading out the song to hear our singing. Following our rendition of "What A Feeling", everyone decided they wanted another beer, so that left only Wheaty and I on the dance floor. This worked out well when an older, extremely drunk gentlemen grabbed me and swept me away to dance; Wheaty sveltly came to my rescue. AND THANK GOODNESS because, first of all, I had no idea what this dude was saying (he spoke very quickly in French and the music was really loud), secondly, I had hocked a huge lugey and it was sitting in my mouth, and third, I didn't quite understand how he wanted to dance with me during a fast song (we were basically waltzing during a techno song). Wheaty cut in and I was overly grateful for the help.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, (nine foreigners drinking then laughing, drinking then laughing) FINALLY, Niles wanted to dance again, so we went up for "Cotton Eyed Joe" and did the thing that is done at weddings when you hold you hands in an arch with a partner and everyone slinks through them as you go around and around and around the dance floor. It was really weird, but fun. Another song came on and we started to do this dorky dance that Big M always does which involves wildly flailing your arms all about when, suddenly, I seriously SMACKED this older dude with the back of my hand. I think it may have echoed. I feebily muttered, "Sorry" (remember that this guy speaks French and probably had no idea what sorry meant) and ran off to find Niles who was pretty much dying with laughter (so much so he had to leave the site of the slap). Oh, it was funny. We could barely tell the story to the others we were laughing so hard. (I laugh so hard every day that my obliques are sore each morning when I wake up.)

Other news: para-gliding will be next break in between sessions. Big M and I are going to Toulouse next week on a day off to do some much-needed shopping. I have spent about $50 here so far (not including train tix) and I feel like the Goddess of all French Accessories is calling to me in my sleep..."Come shopping, please come spend your money..." Bonus: the sales are on in France which means everything is ridiculously priced.

Currently, I am very sticky and tan. I have been laying out in the sun since noon. Don't worry, I have generously applied sunscreen. No cancer for me. I finally finished Harry Potter 2 for the second time (it took me about a month!) and I am starting Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (who wrote DaVinci Code) after this post. Tonight, we are going to a crêperie in town to get an authentic crêpe meal for cheap! I am so excited since I have never had a crêpe (and I've been in France for a total of 8 weeks in my entire life)! Then tomorrow, we start working again.

I am thinking about all of you and wishing you well! Have a great weekend!

Love,

KAN

PS - In a very intense fête discussion last night, Niles and Big M told me that Ivana Ivanavanavanavaner is funnier than G Unit. Who knew?

PPS - I am now addicted to figs thanks to Wheaty and the regularity with which they provide me.
